Pain-Free Marketing for Employment Lawyers

Should law firms build their own mobile Apps?

"Once the internet was the new Wild West. Then came the app" which is great news for law marketing "and now anyone can have any idea for sale in the digital high street within days" ... whether they are a lawyer, an HR specialist or whatever. Here, app entrepreneurs tell you how to do it and Rob Waugh in this handy Daily Mail article tells you how not to.

Here is an extract from the article to tempt those lawyers looking into trends in law marketing.

"STEP 1: THE IDEA
Time required From one ‘eureka!’ second upwards. The hugely successful Angry Birds was the 52nd game developed by Rovio. Most app developers fail several times before they succeed.

STEP 2: MAKING THE APP

Time required A few hours to several months.

STEP 3: SUBMIT YOUR APP

Time required Between one and two weeks."

Waugh goes on to cover the following steps: PR and Marketing, Making Money and Refining the product.

The proliferation and purely addictive nature of apps poses a great opportunity when it comes to law marketing but don't get carried away!

As a seasoned project manager of our HR web service for employers I would just mention a few words of warning ~ those at the cutting edge of law marketing often leverage the know how and expertise of outsourced providers to eliminate the risks associated with a more DIY approach.

I cannot help but think this article describes a rather rose tinted view of the reality although it is undeniably a great read and may well kick start you into realising it is possible for your law firm to have its own mobile app in the short term. But, if you are not careful you can get sucked into the resource intensive territory of 'IT development' in your enthusiasm to take on the law marketing challenge. Its much better to outsource these types of project if you can.

Projects like these can have lots of hidden costs and demand a lot of attention. There are absolutely no short cuts if you want to make users happy ~ you have to design, build and test, review and test; and review and test again before releasing a new version of your technology. I know from experience that this is the case when it comes to delivering a class product.

Here is the article which neatly explains each stage of the process of App designing, building, launching, marketing etc. Great when it comes to guerilla tactics in law marketing.
