New statistics show why lawyers must Blog

The team at HubSpot has produced a report called “The State of Inbound Marketing” which provides insights into the Lawyers must find time to bloggrowth of blogs and the effect on legal marketing. The information can be viewed as a webinar on demand at the above link.

Commercial blogging is proliferating

  1. Blogs and social media channels are generating real customers: 57% of companies using blogs reported that they acquired customers from leads generated directly from their blog.
  2. More and more businesses are blogging: Businesses are now in the minority if they do not blog. From 2009 to 2011 the percentage of businesses with a blog grew from 48% to 65%.
  3. Businesses are increasingly aware their blog is highly valuable: 85% of businesses rated their company blogs as “useful,” “important,” or “critical,” a whopping 27% rated their company blogas “critical” to their business.


And marketers are investing in blogs:

  1. The average budget spent on company blogs and social media increased from 9% in 2009 to 17% in 2011.


So who is blogging successfully? According to HubSpot, marketers in the following sectors indicated blogging as highly effective with over 50% reporting customer acquisition as a direct result from their blogs.

  1. higher education
  2. professional services and consulting, and
  3. software and biotech

You don't have to be a legal marketing expert to recognise that lawyers are in that group but the challenge for us is to blog successfully. The proliferation of legal blogs makes it harder to get noticed, and there is no point if you don't get noticed!
